bone broth – a game changer

In General by Adam Friedman

A couple of years ago, as I was shifting to a ketogenic (high fat / low carb) nutrition plan, I didn’t feel right at first. I had low energy and brain-fog every morning. I was miserable.

After researching to find out why I felt this way, I learned that as a result the adoption of this new keto plan, my body was releasing more water than usual due to the low carbs. It reminded me that it’s the carbohydrates that hold a fair amount of water in our cells.

Losing water also meant losing a fair amount of the essential minerals that my body used to function. Without these minerals, I experienced low energy, headaches, and hazy thinking.

These symptoms are super common for people who first take on ketogenic programs. Through more research, I discovered that drinking bone broth, along with Himalayan pink salt (1/2 teaspoon), would be the fix I needed.

I’ll get to why exactly that is in a moment. Before I do, I have to admit something that you may be thinking yourself, that the thought of having “soup” first thing in the morning is a more than little odd. But I was willing to move past that if it would help.

Sure enough, I felt better immediately. My energy was as high as if I’d had caffeine, and my mental clarity was as sharp as ever.

I am now hooked on this new daily habit of drinking bone broth.

Using it to help with my energy was the catalyst for me to learn about all of the benefits that my body was receiving. And that’s what I want to share with you.

Game Changer

Here are the nutrient-dense properties and benefits:

Electrolytes (essential minerals)

Bone broth naturally contains highly absorbable forms of magnesium, potassium, calcium, and phosphorous. All support many cellular processes in the body. This includes the necessary functions of energy production and building of skeletal muscle.

Amino Acid combo of Glycine and Proline

They help the body to recover by aiding:

  • The nervous system

  • The immune system

  • Muscle repair and growth

  • Healing and repairing the lining of our gut to support better digestion

Glucosamine, Chondroitin, and Hyaluronic Acid

These compounds help to reduce joint inflammation and pain. And they are usually sold in expensive supplements to aid arthritic conditions. Many athletes use the same supplements to help handle the added stress on their joints.

Collagen Protein

This comes from the gelatin produced from the bones of the animal. It is a powerful protein source that can help:

  • Heal leaky gut

  • Prevent bone loss

  • Reduce inflammation

  • Build healthy skin, hair, and nails

As you can see, this is one nutrient-dense food that has many medicinal properties.

The only downside is that it’s time consuming to make yourself. So that leaves the pre-made bone broth that you can find in the store. Unfortunately, most of it is of questionable quality and tastes bad.

There’s one exception that I’ve found. Kettle and Fire Bone Broth is delicious and they make it right. They use only organic ingredients in a very slow process. And they use the right packaging, so it retains all of the flavor and nutrient benefits.

Now my cabinet is always stocked for soothing and quick nutrition as a start my day. Grab some here to get started.

And let me know if you experience the same benefits as I did.

Raising your game,

Adam
